Cliff Atkins
Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington
Drilling Science Coordinator KIS3 2024/2025
Cliff is a Senior Lecturer in geology in the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington. He has a long association with Antarctica, participating in over a dozen research expeditions including five seasons on the international Cape Roberts and ANDRILL drilling projects, as well as smaller field-based expeditions.
His research interests relate to understanding glacial sedimentary processes, environments and landscapes. In an Antarctic context, Cliff has investigated the shape and transport history of clasts in both glaciomarine cores and terrestrial tills, analysed the geomorphology of landscapes previously buried by cold-based ice, and the transport and impact of high latitude dust.
