Dr. David Harwood is a micropaleontologist, biostratigrapher, and professor of geology. His research with the SWAIS 2C Project is determine the age of drill cores by studying marine diatom microfossils in sediments, and to reconstruct past environmental changes in West Antarctica during times when marine seaways covered this region. David is passionate about enhancing public awareness of the Antarctic environment. His decades-long involvement in Antarctic stratigraphic drilling and fieldwork studying the fossil remains in glacial sediments prepared him well for the forensic-science work that will be required in support of the important questions asked by the SWAIS 2C Project about ice sheet history and future sensitivity/stability.
